Anbieter: Cloudflare, Inc., USA / Cloudflare Germany GmbH. Beim Aufruf verarbeitet Cloudflare technisch notwendige Verbindungsdaten (u. a.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b bzw. a DSGVO.

Convenience translation for your information – the German version is authoritative.
Michael Ankelin, Hofstrasse 9, 79415 Bad Bellingen, Germany, [email protected]. A data protection officer has not been appointed (not required).
Plicarta Studio is built to be data-minimal: no user account, no tracking, no advertising, no analytics cookies. We only process what is required for operation, license verification and the features you actually use.
The app is delivered via Cloudflare Pages/Workers; shelf and license-cache data are stored in Cloudflare KV. Provider: Cloudflare, Inc., USA / Cloudflare Germany GmbH. When you access the app, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data (including IP address, time, requested resource) for delivery and security. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR (provision, security). A data processing agreement is in place with Cloudflare; transfers to the USA rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Purchases are processed by Polar as merchant of record (Polar Software Inc.). For the purchase, Polar acts as an independent controller and processes order, payment and invoicing data as well as your e-mail address (key delivery, customer portal). Polar's privacy policy applies in addition. For license verification, our server transmits the license key you enter to Polar (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR).
You can use and pay for Plicarta Studio under a pseudonym: a freely chosen name and an e-mail address at which you receive your key are enough for the purchase; the app does not need your real name. What the payment service itself requires for the payment depends on its terms.
Cancellation via Plicarta Studio (§ 312k BGB). If you cancel via the button “Cancel contracts here” in the app or on the page /kuendigen, we store your cancellation notice: time of receipt, type of cancellation and, where applicable, the reason, the e-mail address for the confirmation, for cancellations from the app the short ID and the last four characters of the licence key, for cancellations without signing in the e-mail address used for the purchase and, if provided, name and the last four characters of the key. The purposes are carrying out, confirming and proving the cancellation (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (c) GDPR). For ordinary cancellations from the app, our server transmits the cancellation to Polar using the customer identifier that Polar provides during the licence check, which we cache for 24 hours. To prevent abuse, the page counts requests per shortened checksum of the IP address for a short time. We delete the notices after three years.
After activation, your license key is stored as a strictly necessary HttpOnly cookie ("__Host-cg_lic") so you stay signed in. Verification results – including the customer name returned by Polar for your key, which is shown to you in the app – are cached server-side for a short time (up to 24 h). To prevent abuse, the server briefly counts requests; your IP address is used only as a truncated hash and only for a few minutes. In addition, the app stores your settings (e.g. theme, deck, print calibration) and, for your convenience, your license key in your browser's localStorage; this data remains on your device and can be deleted there at any time via your browser data. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR; § 25 (2) TDDDG (strictly necessary). No other cookies are set.
If you place projects on the private shelf, project data (title, track list, design, cover image if any) are stored in Cloudflare KV linked to your license key so they are available across your devices (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). Storage period: for the term of your subscription; deletion approx. 30 days after the subscription ends. The shelf is not a backup service – please use the local export functions. The provider may access stored shelf content for troubleshooting and quality assurance (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR); no disclosure to third parties takes place in doing so.
Listening log. If you record listening marks while recording (side, track, position, text and chosen descriptions), they are part of the project: they live in the app and, if you put the project on the shelf, in your private shelf and in your backup. They are never transferred to the public archive and not sent to AI services. Legal basis: performance of contract; deleted with the project.
Programmes. If you combine projects into a series, we store the series title, motto, description, closing line, volume list (number, subtitle, colour, reference to the project) and an optional background image uploaded by you, linked to your license key in Cloudflare KV. Programmes are private until you publish one of their tapes to the public archive; then the series title, motto, numbering, spine layout and, per volume, number, subtitle and colour are published with the tape (section 7). Description, closing line, count line, background image and the references of the volume list remain private. Legal basis: performance of the contract; deleted with the programme, the shelf or the end of the contract (section 7).
Collection. If you read playlist files (CSV) into the collection, we store the title, artist, album, duration, ISRC, the link to the track and the name of the source service, likewise in Cloudflare KV linked to your license key. Names of other people that some export files contain (for example who added a track to a shared playlist) are discarded on import and not stored. The collection is private, is never published and can be emptied in the app at any time; otherwise the legal basis and storage period are the same as for the private shelf.
Record collection. If you read in an export of your Discogs collection (CSV), we store artist, title, label, catalogue number, format, year, folder, condition, rating, date added and your notes in Cloudflare KV linked to your license key. We add covers via MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive (section 8) or you upload your own; they are likewise stored linked to your license key, like the images on the private shelf. Our server does not query Discogs; the “Open at Discogs” button takes you to the record’s Discogs page in your browser, for which their privacy notice applies. If you store your personal Discogs access token in Setup, your browser queries the image addresses of your records directly at Discogs (Zink Media, LLC, USA) – with your account, under their terms and privacy notice; the token is stored only in your browser and is not received by us. Only the image itself is loaded via our server so that it can be stored on your shelf. Legal basis: performance of the contract, triggered by your setting. The record collection is private, is never published and can be replaced or deleted in the app at any time; otherwise the legal basis and storage period are the same as for the private shelf.
Entries you deliberately publish (title, track list, design, neutral artwork and, from the associated programme, series title, motto, numbering, spine layout and, per volume, number, subtitle and colour) are visible to all users of the app (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). The programme details disappear from the archive with the last tape published there or when the programme is deleted. You are named as curator only at your request (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, revocable at any time). You can delete your own entries at any time in the app or by contacting us.
For album search and cover retrieval, our server queries MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive; for playlist import, our server fetches the playlist address you enter (e.g. Apple Music). Your search query or URL is processed server-side; your IP address is shielded from these services by our server (proxy). Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR.
Album search by artist (MusicBrainz, ListenBrainz). If you search the album search by artist only, our server asks MusicBrainz for that artist’s releases and ListenBrainz (also MetaBrainz Foundation, USA) for listen counts per album to order the list by popularity. Only the artist’s identifier is transmitted, no information about you; the result is cached for 24 hours. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR.
Portrait (MusicBrainz, Wikidata, Wikipedia). If you open a portrait in a project, our server asks MusicBrainz (MetaBrainz Foundation, USA) for identifiers and facts on the band, person or track, and Wikidata and Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation, USA) for the related article and its lead section; for the libretto additionally for sections of the articles on the album and the artist, and Wikiquote (Wikimedia Foundation) for sourced quotations. Only the name of the artist or track or its identifier (MusicBrainz ID or ISRC) and the requested language are transmitted; no data about you, no license key, no IP address (the request is made by our server). We store results on our server for up to 30 days so they need not be fetched again; they contain no user reference. Your choice for ambiguous names is stored only in your project (private shelf), not in the public archive. The listening note in the portrait is an AI feature under section 11. The hints “on the shelf” and “n records” and the marking of your own albums result from a comparison in your browser; nothing is transmitted for it. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR, triggered by your choice.
Transfer to streaming services (Soundiiz). If you choose “Transfer” in a project, our server sends the titles and artists of the track list and the project title to Soundiiz (Brickoft SAS, France) and receives a temporary link in return, which we display to you. We transmit nothing else, in particular no notes, no curator name and no playlist link; your IP address does not reach Soundiiz, as the request originates from our server. You then carry out the actual transfer to your streaming service yourself on the Soundiiz website; this requires signing in at Soundiiz, and their terms and privacy notice apply. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR, triggered by your choice.
All fonts are served from our own server. No connection is made to Google Fonts or any other font service; your IP address is not transmitted to any third party when fonts are loaded.
The test bench uses your audio input only after your explicit permission in the browser. All analysis happens entirely locally in your browser; no audio data are transmitted to us or to third parties.
In the App you can request an AI-supported analysis of your shelf (e.g. suggestions, sequencing advice, background texts). The feature can be switched off and starts only at your active request (opt-in in the settings). Shelf and track details (title, artist, format and, where applicable, details of your devices from the setup – no payment or contact data) are transmitted to and processed by Cloudflare Workers AI. Cloudflare is already our processor for hosting and storage (section 3); no additional recipient is involved. For the libretto the AI also translates public source texts (Wikipedia, Wikiquote) into German; only these texts are transmitted, no information about you. If the quality of Workers AI is insufficient, the provider may alternatively use Anthropic PBC (USA) as a processor for translation and the title story of the libretto; even then only the public source texts and the details of the album go to the service, no payment, contact or shelf data. Transfer to the USA is based on the EU standard contractual clauses. Whether and when Anthropic is used is stated in the release notes. The response is cached for up to 24 hours so that the same request is not processed repeatedly. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) or (a) GDPR. There is no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. As long as you do not activate the feature, no such transfer takes place. Should we use a different AI service provider in future, we will amend this section beforehand.
Record collection (v1.8). If you use the conductor in the record collection, artist, title, year, folder name and the “already on tape” flag of up to 400 records in the current view are additionally sent to the AI model; condition, notes, rating and catalogue numbers are not. The same conditions apply as for the other AI functions (opt-in, provider, allowance).
You have the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (Art. 21). Both are built into the app: the "⤒ Backup" function exports your complete shelf (private shelf and your own public entries) as a machine-readable JSON file at any time during the subscription term; you can delete your own public entries yourself in the app. On request, we will additionally provide all data linked to your key (including settings and display name) in machine-readable form, or delete it completely – deletion also before the 30-day period under section 6 expires. You may withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future. Contact: [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
Processors/partners: Cloudflare (hosting, storage, AI processing via Workers AI), Polar (payment processing as merchant of record, acting on its own responsibility in that respect), Proton (e-mail mailboxes, see below), Soundiiz (Brickoft SAS, France; only for a track list transfer initiated by you, acting on its own responsibility in that respect, see section 8), Discogs (Zink Media, LLC, USA; only if you store your own access token – the request is made by your browser, see section 8), MetaBrainz Foundation (MusicBrainz, USA) and Wikimedia Foundation (Wikidata, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, USA; only for the portrait and the libretto, without user data, request made by our server, see section 8). Other recipients only where legally required.
Proton AG (Route de la Galaise 32, 1228 Plan-les-Ouates, Switzerland) operates the e-mail mailboxes of the domain plicarta.com. When you write to us by e-mail, your message and sender details are stored on Proton's servers in Switzerland, encrypted at rest. Proton processes messages solely to deliver and store them. The European Commission has recognised Switzerland as providing an adequate level of data protection (Decision 2000/518/EC, confirmed in January 2024). The legal basis for handling your enquiry is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (contract or pre-contractual steps) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in replying). Messages are deleted once the matter is settled and no retention obligation applies.
Licensed users can report bugs or make feature requests from within the app. We store the report type, subject and description, and — only if the "include technical details" box is ticked — app and server version, browser identifier (user agent), screen size and the active format area; the details to be sent are shown before submitting. Reports are attributed pseudonymously via the licence identifier and are used solely for debugging and product maintenance; they are not published. Retention: 180 days, then automatic deletion. There is no reply channel and no contact data is collected. You can delete your own reports in the app at any time. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR.
For persons resident in Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) as in force since 1 September 2023 applies in addition. The information in this statement also fulfils the duty to inform under Art. 19 FADP: the controller, purposes, recipients and countries to which data is transferred are named above. You have the rights under Art. 25 et seq. FADP, in particular access, rectification, erasure and data portability, exercised via the address given in section 1. The supervisory authority is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), Feldeggweg 1, 3003 Bern.
This policy is updated when features change; the version published here applies.
